Biography

Joseph White was born about 1696, the son of Moses "Old Moses" White and Isabella Cochran.

He married Margaret Leeth, the daughter of John Leeth on March 31, 1735 in , New Castle, Newcastle County, Delaware. Margaret died about 1748.

Joseph was appointed the first Sheriff of Anson County, North Carolina about 1749.

Joseph married a second time about 1753 to Margaret's sister Elizabeth Leeth.

As demonstrated by his will, Joseph married a third time to Alvarilla Harper.

Joseph died February 11, 1808 in Anson County, North Carolina. The Raleigh Register and North Carolina State Gazette posted obituaries on February 11, 1808 stating: "Died at his seat in Anson County, Mr. Joseph White at the extreme age of 112 years."[1]

Will Abstract for White, Joseph, Sr., of Anson, North Carolina. Written: 25 Jul 1804; Proved: Apr Ct 1808, Anson, North Carolina; Recorded: Anson, North Carolina, Will Book II, p. 190. Wife: Arvariller (negro, with reversion at wife’s death to which ever child of testator the negro prefers to live with: Jude). Executrix: wife Averiller. Witnesses: Benjamin Jordan; Daniel Story; Thomas Christian.[2]
