Biography

Thomas White was born in June 1834 at Nettlehurst Farms, Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland. He married Margaret Wilson, who is said to have been descended from Mary, Queen of Scots, in Scotland in on June 5, 1855.

They came to America in 1855. Thomas was a leather dresser and worked for Robert Cochran until he moved to Hudson, Ohio, where he worked for a Mr. Dobbs. Thomas moved to Strongsville, Ohio in 1858 where he bought a farm from a Major Dewey on Royalton Road, now Route 82. In 1864 he sold 30 acres to G.A. Hubbard and J. H. Dunham and then bought 150 acres from Elija Bosworth. His farm was known as the old White Farm and (as of the late 1950s) was owned by a B. Sprague who purchased the farm from Thomas White's youngest son.

Thomas had eight children: Jane, Mary, Janette, John, Margaret, Robert, Margaret, and Thomas.

Thomas White died of consumption on February 16, 1871.
