Biography

John White was born about 1649, the son on Nicholas and Susannah (Foster) White. He resided in that part of Taunton which became Raynham in 1731. John was a surveyor, clerk of the military company, one of the Selectmen of Taunton and a large owner of real estate. In 1704 he represented Taunton on a committee to settle the boundary line between Dorchester on the one side and Taunton and Bridgewater on the other. He married Hannah Smith, the daughter of Samuel and Susanna (Reed) Smith, on 24 Feb 1680. They had ten children all born in Taunton:[1]

1) John, b. 16 Aug 1681.
2) Hannah, b. 19 Apr 1683.
3) Josiah, b. 19 Apr 1685.
4) Elizabeth, b. 11 Nov 1687.
5) Samuel, b. 3 Aug 1691.
6) Abigail, b. 17 Apr 1694.
7) Susanna, b. 27 Sep 1696.
8) Mehitable, b. 12 Apr 1699; married 8 Nov 1739 Shadrach Wilbur, Jr., of Raynham, (his 2d wife.) She died 15 Feb 1783. She had no children.
9) Margaret, b. 2 Oct 1702; died 15 Apr 1775; unmarried. Will proved 26 Apr 1775.
10) Esther, born 4 Jul 1704; died 16 Jan 1774; unmarried.

John passed on 3 Sep 1726.
