Information

Marie (White) Cameron Father, Albert Clinton White was a contractor. He built bridges all over California which meant they traveled alot. He started out building homes, and worked under his Father Clinton Shauck White as an Apprentice. Lola Effie (Cartwright) White, her Mother was a great cook and worked as a cook on the construction crew, she once cooked for 700 men. Lola, owned and operated the Gear Jammers Restaurant located in Oroville, California for a number of years.

Marie White was 2 years old when the family lived in Oroville, Butte, CA USA. Marie was one of 6 children, her siblings were Ruby Cartwright (White) Woodruff, Phillip Melvin White, Bernice Mary (White) Becker, Harvey Lee (Harry) White , and Robert Clinton (White) Graybill.

Marie White Married John Tallackson in 1951, he was in the Air Force. When she was 8 months pregnant and against Dr's orders she took a plane to Fairbanks, Alaska, United States so she could be with her husband when their daughter Christina Marie Tallackson was born. She made the flight okay, Chris was born September of 1952, Marie would leave John just 6 months after Christina was born. She returned home to Oroville, California, United States. Marie divorced John in 1953 in Nevada, United States.

Marie (White) Tallackson, would meet Hugh James Cameron they were married about 1953/54, unfortunately his father would have the marriage annulled by the Catholic Church, because of her previous marriage and divorce, they did not declare it a true marriage, due to their believes. Regardless she was already pregnant with her 2nd child, Valerie Allyn Cameron, she took a job as a telephone operator and moved herself and Christina to Alberquerque, New Mexico where alone she would have her child. White- |Harvey Lee White]], her brother came to be with her there and helped care for her 2 children. Six months after the birth of her second child she moved her little family to Fresno, where her mother would join her and help with the raising of the children. Marie landed a job at Safeway where she would remain for the next 10 years. She also worked for Hatley and Mendes, in Burrell, California, Bookeeping for their Dairy and Farm.k Marie was a wonderful mother, she was strict but we always knew what our just punishment would be 2 weeks yard duty, weeds only no dirt in our buckets. We would be grounded for those 2 weeks, lol she was smart enough to allow our friends to come over. The rule was they had to do yard duty right along side of us. Needless to say they stayed only long enough to let us know what fun things they had planned for the day. They stayed a short while but thoughts of their fun lingered on our minds for quite some time. Marie was also a fun, loving mother, she wasn't afraid to be silly to make us laugh, she had a beautiful voice and often sang, especially on long trips. She taught herself how to play the piano. I never saw a job she couldn't get accomplished with or without a man's helping hand. Usually on her own. Her girls all raised to be strong like their mother.Marie had a beautiful spirit and had many friends.

In 1960 she had yet another child Gayle Allison (Hyde) Cameron, beautiful baby girl who would come to be loved tremendously by her 2 big sisters. In 1961 Marie bought a house on Calimyrna Ave, in Fresno, California, United States and moved the family there, along with her mother Lola Effie (Cartwright) White. They remained there until 1965 when Marie purchased the Rio Motel in Bakersfield, California, United States. She had big plans for their future they loaded up the car and headed for Bakersfield to start a new chapter in their lives. She had a green thumb, and had a beautiful garden with many flowers, Zenia's will always remind me of her. Pansies were always on the patio, and just outside the kitchen window above the sink was a beautiful Lilac bush, if you have never smelled a lilac bush or experienced its, beauty it is a must have in any garden. A Hydrangia bush was just outside the back door, it smelled like my dentist's office, but it was always beautiful in bloom. She would always have us kids grow different things, like beets, and indian corn, even raspberry popcorn. Mama planted a large maple tree at our house there on Calimyrna in Fresno, and she had purchased one for my Great Aunt Aliff Ivy's house in Selma California. That tree in Selma grew so large over the next 20-30 years, the one Mama planted just outside the front door on Calimyrna must have struck hard pan, because it never got very big. It's because of this that also Japaneese Maple trees remind me of her also.

In 1961 she purchased a house on W. Califmyrna Ave, Fresno, California, United States. The yard was barren, besides a large round planter in the middle of the yard with a really large cactus. For Starters, she yanked out the cactus, then removed all the bricks to that ugly offset large planter in the middle of the yard. She started planting her gardens. Marie had a green thumb. She grew Zenia's, Roses, Carnations, Climbing Roses, Lilac Trees, many varieties of flowers. Bearded Iris's, Tulips, Daffodils, Bottlebrush, Pansies, Bachelor Buttons, Peach Trees, Apricot Trees, Locuate's, Hydrangia. To this day every time I see a Zenia, I think of her.

Marie was a character, she was well loved by everyone that knew her, and had a tremendous amount of friends, from everywhere she had ever gone. She was funny, at work when they had to dress up for Halloween or whatever the occassion she always choose to be a Clown, her costume was very professional looking. She taught us to camp, fish, and tried her hand at running a motor boat once, that took some time for her to get the hang of it. There wasn't much she didn't try her hand at, if it needed doing she usually did it. Re Upholstering the chairs in her old automobile, or building a fence, climbing on the roof to service the cooler, or getting under the hood of her car to try to fix the problem herself. She was very independent, and taught her girls to be that way also.

Just outside of Selma California on the old Highway 99, or Golden Gate Highway, as it is better known. It was a quiet night just before 10 p.m. as she drove to the Rio Motel she had just putchased, her vehicle would be struck by a drunk driver, forever changing all of their lives. Marie held on tight as her car spun out of control, she tried her hardest to gain control of her vehicle. Marie was killed that horrible night, the car struck the rear drivers side of the vehicle throwing it into a tailspin, throwing out the 3 children that were inside of the vehicle with her. They all landed in the medium the car flipped over and came to a rest against against a Eucalyptus tree, landing on Marie and killing her instantly. Her injuries were numerous. Two of the children in the car were hers the third child was a neighborhood friend. Marie was planning to return the next day for her eldest child and her mother Lola. The driver fled the scene later arrested in a cab.

Lola Effie (Cartwright) White and the girls would return home to that house on Calimyrna, friends returned the furniture that had been loaded on the moving trucks on that dreadful night. Marie's dream of the Rio Motel, would never come to be. Her mother who was 63 at the time, now with 3 young girls, couldn't take on that task. The girls had just lost their Mother, couldn't take them away from all of their friends too. The $5,000 down payment was lost. The house on Calimyrna had been leased out to someone else, they were to take posession of it soon. They had to breach that arrangement. Christina Marie (Tallackson) Haugh would have to go live with her Father John Ogden Tallackson who won custody of her. The two younger girls remained with their Grandmother Lola in that house for several years to come, until after they reached adulthood. In fact until the State of California made the purchase of that property for the new 41 Freeway.
