Biography

Alexander White was about 1545 in Sturton Le Steeple, Nottinghamshire, England [1].

Thomas White made his will in Sturton on the 14th October 1579, naming Alexander to be his elset son. According to Walter Burgess [2] Alexander married Eleanor Smith shortly after his father's death, i.e. c1580.

They had eight children, including Katherine, who married and accompanied John Carver on the Mayflower to Plymouth, Massachusetts.[3] Full name Katherine (White) Leggatt, widow of George Leggatt and eldest daughter of eight children of Alexander White and his wife Eleanor of Sturton-le-Steeple, Nottinghamshire. She was the eldest sister of Bridget, who married John Robinson.[4]


Will of Alexander White: Extracted from the district probate registry at York attached to His Majesty's High Court of Justice: "In the name of God Amen the XXVth day of Mche in the yeare of o'r lord 1594 I Alexander White of Sturton... Item I give unto the Children of my brother John White and Will'm White... Item I give unto my sonn Charles White... Item I give to every one of my yong'r Sonnes Thomas, Roger and Edward White... Witnesses Robert Poole Charles White... On the 6th day of May 1596 the Will of Alexander White late of Sturton in the County of Notts was proved by the Oath of Ellenore White Widow the Relict and sole Executrix.[5] The Find a Grave post contains his entire will.
