Biography

John Willard was born in Jonesport, Maine, in October of 1847, the son of William Flagg and Susan (Johnson) White.

He enlisted in the Civil War on 29 February 1864. He served in Company C of the Coast Guard, Maine Infantry, and was discharged on 6 September 1865.

Back in Jonesport, he married Martha Ann Farnsworth in 1869. She died a year later, in 1870.

In 1871 he married Mary L. Caler and the couple settled at Centerville, where John was a farmer. They were living in Columbia Falls, Maine, in 1900, when Mary passed away.

He married a third and final time to Fannie D. Kelly in 1902.

He was admitted to the Soldiers Home in Togus, Maine, on 14 October 1919, for senile dementia, among other issues. He died there a year later and was buried at the Bayview Cemetery in Jonesport, Maine.
