This White family, who emigrated to colonial Virginia, were English, perhaps from Wiltshire, perhaps from Cheshire. John White Sr. had come to Lower Norfolk County, Virginia as a child, probably a servant. His "headright" of 50 acres had been paid to William Croutch in 1639 along with John Warford, Thomas Smith, Peter Hill, William Minnokes: 250 acres called Woolfe Neck in Lower Norfolk County.
If the research by Jim White is correct, John White Sr. had followed older brother, Thomas White, who at 16, emigrated from England to Virginia aboard the ship George in August 1635 and settled on the Eastern branch of the Elizabeth River in Lower Norfolk.[1]
This White family established themselves on what became the VA/NC border, then entirely in Virginia colony, building a plantation on Knotts Island. John White Sr., married Eady Llewellin (aka Llewellyn), born 1640 in Virginia, around 1660, and they had several children, including John II, born ca. 1663 most-likely in Norfolk County, Virginia.

That may later change. Note: not all details agree with the WikiTree profile and one is downright impossible: It says he was born 1633 but his mother was born 1637.... Note: not all details agree with the WikiTree profile and one is downright impossible: It says he was born 1633 but his mother was born 1637.... Also the death dates given make this man & his son John White both too old for that time & place!
