b Simonstone, Lancs (is in Whalley parish)(censuss says b Lancs.,Padiham and Simonstone(Padiham-larger town 1Km from Simonstone) twice). An Alice Whithead(sic - original document is Whitehead) born 11.9.1820 and christened 24.9.1820 at St Leonards, Church St. Padiham (father John[a grocer] and mother Margaret - abode Padiham) - possibly this one(A John Whitehead[chr. St. Mary and All Saints, Whalley on 2.3.1794, abode Read(in Simonstone), father James, weaver] married a Mgt. Whitehead[b Read, 1794; chr St. Mary and All Saints, Whalley on 6.4.1794, father, Thomas, weaver] at St. Mary and All Saints, Whalley on 11.8.1814, both abodes Read - [in Simonstone]. - one witness was Thomas Whitehead - ? her father). Also an Alice Whitehead born in Newchurch in 1822 and father, John, a carter and mother Alice and abode Pikelaw [baptised at St. Nicholas]; looks likely but she seemed to die, age 3[buried St.Nicholas, Newchurch in 1825, father John, mother, Alice; but at 2nd marriage, father was a carter.
Alice Whitehead married Samuel Hardman, (bachelor[b 1822, Rochdale], spinner, father James Hardman, Fuller, mother, Ann) on 17.10. 1847 at St. Chad, Rochdale. Her abode was Butterworth[includes Milnrow, nr. Rochdale]; his abode was Buckley; witnesses were Thomas Ratcliffe and Betty Crossley. However she had a child ( before marriage), Matilda Hardman or Whitehead (REPUTED father Samuel Hardman, mother, Alice Whitehead), christened 20.4.1845 at St. James, Milnrow, Lancs[village between Rochdale and Oldham], abode Newhey- Matilda was born 12.6.1843 at Spotland Nearer, Rochdale. In 1851 Matilda was with Grandmother (Ann Hardman ) at Lowerfold, Spotland, Rochdale. Samuel(father James) died in 1848 age 27 in Butterworth Lordship, Rochdale. M Benjamin Crook (1820) on 1.1. 1853 at Walmersley, Christ Church, Bury. He was a cotton weaver and his father was Jonathan, a dyer: Alices father was John Whitehead and a carter; residence of both was Summerseat[between Haslingden and Bury]. See Benjamin for details.

1981 census at 15 Canning St., Accrington: Benjamin Crook[61, head, railway watchman, b Tottington]; Crook, Alice[68?, wife, b Simonstone]; Crook, Thomasine[daughter, 26, cotton weaver, b Tottington]; Crook, Mary A.[24, daughter, cotton spinner, b Haslingden]; Crook, Sarah Alice, 16, daughter, cotton weaver, b Rossendale].
In 1891 was a widow[68, living on own means] living at 130 Bold St. Accrington and a boarder with Sarah Alice Crook[26, cotton ??], her daughter, in home of Joseph Richardson (55), a cotton overlooker from Oswaldtwistle.
Died in Accrington in 1893, age 70.
