QUAKER

Arthur Whitehead married as his first wife, Isabella Purcell, a descendant of European nobility.

In about 1723, he settled the estate of William West. Six years later, in 1729, Arthur appraised the estate of Edward Powers, then in 1736, he appraised the estates of Robert Vick and John Vasser. The next year, he appraised the estate of William Worrell.

Arthur Whitehead made his will out on March 12, 1744, but it was not recorded until January 1750, Southampton County, Virginia. In it he names his eldest son, Arthur, who received land adjoining William Turner; his grandson, Arthur Whitehead; son Lewis, who was left land on the Pottycassey Creek in North Carolina; son, Nathan, who received land on Fishing Creek; grandson, Benjamin Whitehead; daughter, Catrin Cobb; grandson Jacob Vick; daughter, Mary; and daughter, Ann, who was left a plantation and Negro Toney, and a feather bed.[1]

Several, if not all, of his family were Quakers, and attended the Pagan Creek Monthly Meeting in Isle of Wright County, Virginia.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Arthur by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Arthur:

The sources give his date of birth as 1693 and profile gives 1673. Bio says married Apr 21 1717 but 4 of the possible children were born before. Some don't fit into their biographies: example Catherine "Catrin" has birth dates 1705, 1714 & 1724.

Isabella Purcell was born 1690 and husband Arthur 1673 giving 17 years difference - of course it's not impossible. An Arthur Whitehead was born in 1693: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Whitehead-7005. Perhaps there are 2 different Arthur Whiteheads mixed into this profile.

The profile was originally uploaded in 2012 with parents William Whitehead (1672 • Isle Of Wight County, Virginia, USA) and Rachael Whitehead (McKinney-1363) and original birth 1693 for Arthur Whitehead.

I think you are right! Both parents should be merged, Whitehead-1313 into Whitehead-672 and Unknown-216374 into Whitehead-672. Victor

It seems as though William West Whitehead (Whitehead-697) should be a sibling?

At least according to this: Whitehead, J. B. “The Whitehead Family in Southern Virginia.” The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, vol. 44, no. 4, 1936, pp. 358–365. JSTOR, www.jstor.org/stable/4244754. Accessed 17 Aug. 2020.

I added the Virginia Project as manager of this profile due to the number of duplicates/merges.

I have completed the merges but this biography needs reworking with pre-1700 sources included as inline citations and duplicate information removed. I will come back to this tomorrow.

The parents attached to this profile do not match the parents given in the biography. It appears that his father should be Arthur II not William West Whitehead.
