Archibald Alexander "Arch" Whitehead, Jr. was born in 1822 in Fayette County, Alabama. He was the son of Archibald Whitehead, Sr. and Nancy Smith. He married Martha C. "Patsy" Anthony in Marion County, Alabama about 1847. They had the following children:
Arch and Patsy were enumerated in the 1850 Census. They were living on a farm in Marion County, Alabama with children George W. (6), Nancy Jane (4), and Sally (newborn).[1]
It is not known where Archibald died although it is thought it may have been during the US Civil War. He was buried in 1861 at Morris Cemetery, Fayette, Alabama.[2]
In 1860, Arch and Patsy were still living on the Marion County farm. Their family had grown. In addition to George W. (12); Nancy J. (10), and Sally D. (8), they now were also parents to William S. (6), Tabitha E. (5), Mary E. (3), and James F. (2). Martha's younger brother, George, was also living with the family.[3]
