Margaret was born about 1785. Margaret Whitehead ... She passed away about 1838. At this time it is unknown because of a lack of sources, if Margaret's maiden was really "Whitehead" In the Book The Hendons from Gunpoweder River, I have not been able to find the author's sources for Margaret Whitehead.
Contrary to what some believe, all the children born (ca 1810 - ca 1825) to Mrs. Whitehead were fathered by James F. Hendon. He & Margaret eventually married (about 1830), making his children legitimate.
James F. Hendon was Sheriff of Clarke County, Georgia (8 or 10 terms) and this 'common law' arrangement would have been shunned in 19th century Georgia.
