He was baptised on 5 January 1889 at St. Martin, Salisbury, Wiltshire[3].
Brian's father Arthur was a Solicitor and the family lived comfortably at Rougemont, London Road, Milford, Alderbury, Wiltshire, England in 1891, having live-in servants
[4].
In the UK Census of 1901, 12-year-old Brian was recorded as a Boarder at preparatory school at the Portmore School in Weymouth, Dorset, England, United Kingdom about 50 miles from Salisbury, along with his brother Arthur, who was a year older
[5].
By 1914 he was serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps[7]. His Territorial Force Attestation papers were signed on 10 August 1914. Regimental Number: 49
Brian served in the 1st World War, entering the Theatre of War in France on 21 November 1915 and attaining the rank of Major. He was entitled to the Victory Medal, the British War Medal and the 1914-15 Star.
In the 1939 England and Wales Register Brian (51) was living with his wife Winifred J Whitehead (50) and their two children Antoinette F Whitehead (22) and Brian L Whitehead (19) at Hamilton House, Downton, Salisbury and Wilton, Wiltshire, England. Also in the household were five other individuals (with two of those being closed records as at 28 April 2022)[15].
Occupation: Medical Practitioner
Brian was living at Hamilton House, Downton when he died on 10 February 1955 at the age of 66[16] . His Will was proved on 4 May 1955 at Winchester to Lloyds Bank Ltd and Brian Loder Whitehead, medical practitioner. Effects: £18983 17s. 5d.
Research Notes
Military career: Brian was a doctor, serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps during World War I. Someone with knowledge of and access to British military records should check to see if Brian had a long career in the military, if he served also in World War II, and if he received any awards.
Brian's ancestors are mostly very messed up on WikiTree. According to this branch of WikiTree, Brian's mother was Susannah Loder Whitehead and her father was Rev. Arthur Whitehead (1835-1889). Rev. Whitehead was actually the father of the Arthur Whitehead who was the father of our Brian. Brian's mother was actually Susannah Loder Cother.[1][2] We also have an Albert Charles Attwood as the father of Brian's father instead of the Rev. Whitehead. About 20 members of this family group need to be reworked and one or two may need to be disconnected.
