Lemuel Hatch Whitfield was born 3 July 1798 in White Hall, Wayne
County, North Carolina. He was the son of William Whitfield and Sarah (Hatch) Whitfield.[1][2]
He was first married 6 January 1824 to Ann E. Sasser, daughter of James Sasser.[1] According to the refenced Whitifield book, they were the parents of six children. In the 1830 U.S. Census, Leml. H. Whitfield was enumerated in Capt Hamilton District, Wayne, North Carolina, as head of a 31 person household, including one male and one female (age 30 thru 39), 3 children (one boy & two girls) and 26 slaves.[3]
He was married a second time, 14 April 1854 in Shelby County, Tennessee to Lucy E Rufflin.[4]
In the 1870 U.S. Census, Lemuel Whitfield was recorded as 72-years old living in Goldsboro Township, Wayne, North Carolina with his son-in law, Edwin Borden, age 39, daughter Georgana Borden, age 37, and their children.[2]
He died 20 April 1871 his daughter’s home in Goldsboro, Wayne, North Carolina. [1]
