In his son Samuel's memoir, the authors provide good detail about John living in Boston, Lincolnshire, England. He is listed as a member of the common council in 1590.[1]
He was a merchant and landowner and the town mayor in 1600 and 1608.
According to his Find a Grave Memorial, John Whiting was born in 1561 in Boston, Lincolnshire, England and died there October 20, 1617.
Burial on 22 OCT 1617 in Boston, Lincolnshire, England
Family
He may have had three wives, Margaret Bonner, Faith, and Isabel.
Children were bpt. St. Botolph[2] Except Isabel who died young these were all and no others named in John's 1617 will.
"Isabella Whitinge" bpt 10 Dec 1587;[3] bur or died? 4 May 1602
James Whiting bpt 21 Aug 1599.[9] The baptismal register must be unclear whether his name was John or James. There is a James listed in his father's will as well as a John, but there was another John bpt.
Disputed Children
John Whiting had 6 children who are listed in the Parish records of Baptisms of St. Boltoph's, Boston, Lincolnshire. There is no Sarah, Robert, Stephen, Joseph or Nathaniel or William listed in this baptismal record or later in John Whiting's Will.[2] Unless there is some form of overwhelming proof beyond the Baptismal record and the Will of John Whiting, these children should be disconnected from these parents.
Estate
His Will "is in the Parish records of St. Boltoph, in Boston; and is dated October 20, 1617, only two days before he was buried." He mentions his loving wife Isabel, daughter Margaret w/o Richard Carter, son James, son John, daughter Audrey w/o Robert Wright and son Samuel.[10]
