James W. Whitley was born about 1786 in South Carolina. In 1830 he was living in Marengo County, Alabama where he had been married to Fereby (Pherraba) O'Neal in 1819. She was the daughter of Bridgers O'Neal and Mary Polly Hinton. [1]
In 1850 James is 64 years old. He and Fereby are still in Marengo, Alabama and four of their children are still living at home. This is the last census where James appears as he died in 1853. [2]
James William Whitley died 1 October 1853 and is buried in the Pearson Cemetery, Marengo County, Alabama. [3]
