From Iva Mossholder, via Ferne Sepp: Samuel Whitmore was a member of the Ohio House of Rep. from Coshocton Co. 1835-1836

From Jefferson Co. IA records, Vol 10, Quoting Iowa Historical Record 1899: Samuel Whitmore was a farmer of Locust Grove Twp., and that he was a man of influence in the county may be gathered from the trusts committed to him, in after years. (near Fairfield) Mr. Whtimore, like all the delegation from Jefferson County, with the exception of Mr. Ross, was not a public speaker. He came to Iowa in 1842 from Ohio, where he had amassed a considerable amount of property in contracting work on canals. In 1852 he was elected to State Legislature, his colleagues being H.B. Mitchell and W.J. Rodgers;

This land was originally owned by "AJOUE' or TOWOHA' Indians IOWA INDIANS. They were almost wiped out by the Indian Wars of Fox nations. Locust Grove Twp is on the Wapello County Line and mostly North of the railway tracks.
