Clarence was adopted at the age of 3 wk's, by George Otis and Anna (Stafford) Morsman. His name was later changed to Leonard Clarence Morsman. This information was written in Leonard's own hand and found among his papers at his passing by his daughter Bessie and related to me his Granddaughter Betty (Lockwood) Warner.
I was able to find an excerpt from Leonard's obit-
FRIENDSHIP---Leonard C Morsman, 89 OF RD1 Wells Road, died Monday (Aug. 27, 2001) at Jones Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born Jan. 12, 1912, in Bradford, Pa., he was the son of Christopher and Grace Schneider Whitney. Later he was adopted by George and Anna Stafford Morsman. On Nov. 24, 1934, in Dansville, he married the former Lovina (George) Whitwood, who survives. Mr. Morsman had lived most of his life in the Friendship area and attended the Bradford Rural School District. For many years he was employed by various dairy farms in the area and later he worked as a highway construction worker on the Belmont-Alfred road. He was a truck driver for the Borden Milk Plant in Belmont for several years. For 21 years he was a machinist at Worthington Pump Plant in Wellsville. He retired in 1973. Mr. Morsman enjoyed hunting, fishing, making maple syrup, and collecting antiques. He was a member of the International Machinists Union. In addition to his wife, Mr.Morsman is survived by a son, Michael D. (Shirley) Morsman of Friendship, three daughters, Bessie A. (Al) Morehouse, Shirley V. (David) Johnson, and Winifred (Erwin) Snyder, all of Friendship; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two daughters, Katherine Morsman and Patrica Hodge, a son, Merl J. Morsman, and a step-sister, Margaret Morsman [Owen] Merrick. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Friendship.[1][2]
