Robert was born in 1860 in St. John's, Newfoundland, the son of Henry Whitten and Hannah.
[1][2]
He was baptized October 21. Interestingly, on the same page as his birth record there is another Whitten: William James Whitten, born in Petty Harbor on May 25, 1860, to John and Elizabeth Whitten. Perhaps a first cousin.
[3]
As a 32-year-old in 1892, he came to Boston.
[4]
This may have been before he could bring his wife and children, since Hannah, their daughter was born in Nova Scotia in 1895.
With Louisa Reid, also from Newfoundland, Robert is the father of many children including Frederick, born in 1904 in Boston,
[5]
Edith Elizabeth, born in 1906,
[6]
and Charles, born in 1909.

According to my DNA, Robert Whitten and Louisa Reid are my ancestors. They should be my g-g-grandparents. I believe their grandson, Robert Charles Whitten is my paternal grandfather. My paternal grandfather Alfred William Tigges lied about many things to my grandmother, including his name.
