Martha was born to William Whittingham and Mary Lawrence in Boston, in the year 1670. It has been documented in Saltonstall genealogy that her 3rd great grandfather was William Whittingham [1], the English Biblical scholar and John Calvin, the Reformer, being her third great uncle.

Sadly, a year later her father died at the age of 27, in 1672. The children were left in the guardianship of their grand uncle, Rev. William Hubbard of Ipswich.
Her sister, Elizabeth, was married to Col. Samuel Appleton, and her other sister, Mary, was married to Gurdon Saltonstall, the Governor of the colony of Connecticut.
At the age of nineteen, Martha married Rev. John Rogers on Mar. 4, 1690, in Ipswich.
They had the following children.
