Biography

The daughter of McAllen Batts Wiggins and Nancy Elizabeth (Marbut) Wiggins, Daisy Lou Wiggins was born in Polk County Georgia on 11 October 1881. She was the 6th of 7 daughters.

She married Riley Fletcher Ash in August 1899. Riley had been married to Daisey's older sister, Lena Naoma (Wiggins) Ash who passed away in July 1898, leaving a three-year old child, Ora Elizabeth Ash. After marrying her deceased husband's sister, Daisy raised Ora equally with her own children. She was more than an aunt to her, she was a mother to her as well.

Daisy passed away in Polk County, Georgia, in 1965 and is buried at Sanders Cemetery, Prior, Polk County, Georgia, next to her husband, and her sister, Lena.[1]

Memories

"Mama" Daisy, as we called her, is buried in Sanders Cemetery off of Prior Station Road in Cedartown GA, next to her husband, Riley Ash. It is in the Ash plot. Mama Daisy lived to be 84 years old. She & Riley Ash lived in the little white house at the corner of Wissahickon Ave & Cave Spring Rd in Cedartown Ga. It is directly across from the "Big Spring", where I spent many a fun summer day wading in the spring creek. Mama Daisy used to give me lemonade and cookies on her front porch in the summers, 1959,1960,1961. She was a big, warm, sweet woman. She and Riley Ash had many kids, Irma, Prior, Macon, Bruce, Faye & another (Fannie Louise) who died before I was born. Faye is buried with her husband, John Madison, in Greenwood Cemetery, just down from her sister, Irma, and near my mom, her niece, Aileen Helen Pratchard Harper. Prior is buried in Sanders Cemetery. Bruce and his wife, Marguerite, are buried in another cemetery in Cedartown GA. (I am her great grandson, John Alexander Harper III (Andy). My maternal grandmother, Irma Lee Ash was her daughter.)
