Biography

Hannah (Wiggins) Abbott was born in Surrey, England.

Hannah (Wiggins) Abbott has English ancestors.

Hannah Wiggins was born sometime before August 2nd, 1775 (the date of her christening) in Godalming, England to Thomas and Catharine Wiggins^[1]. At some point after her birth, she immigrated to the U.S., and on September 11, 1796 married Piermont Porter in Hadley, Hampshire Massachusetts^[2]. They had multiple children together before Pierpont died in January of 1805. Hannah (Wiggins) Porter ("of Hadley") was noted as widowed in the intended marriage announcement of March 8th, 1807 ("Widow Porter"), between her and Daniel Abbott "of Leverett"^[3]. Daniel Abbott had also been widowed after the death of his first wife Naomi Graves in 1804, and like Hannah, had multiple children from his previous marriage. They then had 2 additional children from their own marriage of 1807, Asahel and Julia. Hannah survived Daniel by many years and died in 1846 of "dropsy", an old term for edema and possibly a symptom she suffered from heart and or kidney failure^[4].
