Biography

Nancy Caroline "Carrie" Wiggins was born in Warren Co, Tennessee, on 05 Oct 1839,^[1][2][3][4] the fourth known child and eldest daughter of Allen Wiggins and Elizabeth Isham. By 1845,^[5] the family had moved from Tennessee to Cass Co, Illinois, where she grew up.

On 10 Mar 1864, in Beardstown, Illinois,^[6] she married James Harlow from Pike Co, Illinois, about 50 miles away. It isn't known how they happened to meet. By 1870, they had two children, Allan Nathaniel (named after his two grandfathers) and James Thomas.^[4]

According to family lore, Carrie contracted tuberculosis,^[7] and passed away on 23 Dec 1871^[8] at the age of 32, leaving two sons: 3 and 6.

Although he subsequently remarried, her husband kept an 11"x12" charcoal portrait of Carrie displayed in the family home. It eventually came into the possession of her great grandson, Bruce G Harlow.
