Biography

Ruth was born in 1911. She was the daughter of Stephen Wight and Irene Saunders. She passed away in 2005. [1]

Obituary

Burris, Ruth Elizabeth - Bedford, passed away peacefully in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, on March 30, 2005, at the age of 93 years. She lived a full and active life. She was born in South Harmony, Kings Co. She graduated from the Normal College in Truro with her teaching certificate. She taught for a few years after which she took a hairdressing course and opened a hairdressing salon in Middleton in the mid-thirties. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, crocheting, needlepoint and doing crossword puzzles. After marriage, she moved to Valley, Colchester Co., in 1939. She resided there as an active housewife, substitute teacher, beloved mother and amateur poet until the late 1980s. She then moved to Bedford to be close to her two sons. When her health began to fail, she resided for a brief time in the Northwood Centre Nursing Home and The Berkley of Bedford. She was a member of the Baptist faith. She was a daughter of the late Stephen Shaffner Wight and Mary Irene (Saunders) Wight. She is survived by her sons, F. David (Margaret) Burris, Beaver Bank, and Gordon Dean (Donna) Burris, Bedford. Also surviving are grandchildren, Mark (Laura), Julie (Gordon Freeman), Michael, Katherine; great-grandchild, Alexander; a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Fulton Burris; brothers, Leslie, Will, Donald; sisters, Inez Spurr, Ena Porter, and Eleanor Silver. Cremation has taken place. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of choice. A memorial service is to be held in Bedford Baptist Church, 38 Rocky Lake Dr., Bedford, on Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m., Rev. Nelson Metcalfe officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to T.K. Barnard Funeral Home, Bedford.
