Research Notes

  • Not to be confused with Nathaniel Wilder (b. 1793) of Hingham, Massachusetts. Son of Nathaniel Wilder and Jane Marsh.
  • Find-a-Grave has recently changed his birth location from York to Germany which is unlikely based available sources. If he were Mennonite, the German reference would be to the Low German language and not the actual country.
  • Death record for sons Thomas and Peter Wilder, who died at Michigan, indicate both parents were born in Ontario.
  • Message sent to Find-A-Grave on 11 February 2023 suggesting that they correct birth location to Ontario and not Germany based on two sons death records.

Wilder-2296 and Wilder-1125 do not represent the same person because: I made several mistakes when editing both profiles. But I think you can see that these are two separate individuals. With different wives, birth location, death location, I can not approve this merge.

Nathaniel Wilder son of Thomas Wilder was born in Hingham, Nov. 18, 1772. Married Sept. 30, 1792, Jane Marsh, dau. of Ephraim and Susanna (Todd) Marsh. She was born in Hingham Aug. 12, 1774, and died 15 Dec. 1868, set. 94 yrs. He d. 3 Aug. 1823, aet. 51st yr. " Trader." Resided on North St., near Goold's Bridge

Wilder-2296 and Wilder-1125 appear to represent the same person because: Census records show that Nathaniel Wilder son of Nathaniel Wilder and Jane Marsh born 3 Feb 1793 in Higham, Massachusetts married Sarah Ann Crittenden and passed away 1 Aug 1856 in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada West
