Daniel Wilder was born 16 March 1824 in Shelby County, Alabama.[1] Daniel is the son of John Wilder and Cenia Jordan.
Daniel married the widow Susan Jane Ticer Niven on the 25th of January 1848, in Shelby County, Alabama.[2]
Daniel appears in the 1850 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama as head of household. Daniel's household appears as follows: Daniel age 35; Susan age 30; Jesse age 4; Mary age 6; Samuel age 7 (Note: the census taker listed the surname of Jesse, Mary and Samuel as Wilder when they are actually the children of the deceased Jesse Lindsay Niven, Susan's first husband) The following are the children of Daniel and Susan: Louisa age 2 and Laura age 1.[3]
Daniel did not enlist to serve in the Civil War until the Confederacy changed the conscription law in 1864 to begin drafting men between the ages of 18 and 45. Daniel had been exempt from service because of his age until the change in the conscription law in 1864. Daniel served as a private in Company E, 29th Alabama Infantry. Daniel died the 17th January 1865 in Lauderdale county, Alabama at the home of Mr. C.A. Howard.[4]
