Biography

Oliver Wilder was born in 1694 a son of Nathaniel Wilder and his wife Mary Sawyer. [1] In 1713 he married Mary Fairbanks, daughter of Jonathan Fairbanks. She was born in 1692 and died June 15, 1745.[2]

In 1710, when Oliver was 16 years old, he and his brother Nathaniel were attacked by Indians while working on their father's farm. Three years earlier their brother Jonathan had been killed by Indians and their brother Ephraim had been severely wounded. Oliver and Nathaniel escaped to the garrison, but the Indian servant who was working with them was killed.[2]

Oliver was an ensign in the service August 23, 1725; at that time he was living at Turkey Hills. He rose through the various grades to the rank of colonel. In 1757, at the age of 63, he turned out with his regiment at the Fort William alarm and marched as far as Springfield, Massachusetts. He also was in the Crown Point expedition in 1759. [2]

In 1726 he refused to accept the office of constable and declined to pay the 5-pound fine for refusing to take office. However, he often served the town of Lancaster as moderator and selectman. [2]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Oliver by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Oliver:

Wilder-321 and Wilder-61 appear to represent the same person because: I believe these are the same person. The reluctance to merge them in the past was due to the discrepancy between Sudbury and Lancaster as birthplace. I don't think that should be an issue, and I think Sudbury is the correct location. Lancaster is a reasonable inference for a Wilder, because of the family's close association with that town; and since many records for Lancaster are missing, lack of records doesn't prove a negative. However, sources I've seen agree that the children of Nathaniel Wilder and Mary (Sawyer) Wilder were born in Sudbury.

Regardless of anything else, more sourced information is needed here.

Has the Revolutionary War record been applied to the wrong Oliver Wilder? This man died in 1765, which makes it unlikely that he participated in the Revolutionary War. Could the Oliver Wilder who had Revolutionary War service be his son Oliver, born in 1720 -- or another family member?

I just started looking at Wilder 321 & 61. My opinion, being the 6th Gr Grandson, I support the merge of 321 & 61. I don't think the match should have been removed. I admit I'm a novice, but still support the merge.
