Biography

Clark C. Wilder was born on May 14, 1841 in Ashford, Cattaraugus, New York to Chester Wilder and Mary Ann McGraw. (Note: Clark's date of birth varies from 1841 to 1843 in the census records; 1841 is used here as it appears on his gravestone.) [1]


In 1850[2] and 1855, Clark lived with his parents and siblings in Sardinia, Erie, New York. [3]

Clark served with the Union Army during the United States Civil War. He served with Company I of the 71st Regiment of the New York Infantry, enlisting on July 7, 1861 until his discharge on September 26, 1864. He served for 3 years, 2 months, 19 days. [4] [5] [6] [7]

Clark was reported in the 1865 New York Census as a soldier with his parents in Sardinia, Erie, New York. [8]

Clark married Mary Elsie Fay in about 1865, and they one child, Willis Montrose Wilder. His second marriage was to Lucinda Sanders in about 1872. They had a son, Winfield Wilder and lived in Otto, Cattaraugus, New York in 1875. [9]

In 1890, Clark lived in Cattaraugus, New York. [10]

Clark and Lucinda were residents of New Albion, Cattaraugus, New York in 1910 -1920. [11] [12]

Clark C. Wilder died on October 28, 1926 and was buried in Liberty Park Cemetery, Cattaraugus, Cattaraugus, New York. [13]
