Biography

Vincent Wilder was born after 1771 and before 1780 in Lancaster county, Virginia.[1] Vincent is the son of Jonathan Wilder and Frances Unknown. Frances was the second wife of Jonathan Wilder.

Vincent was a minor child when his father, Jonathan Wilder died in 1788. Vincent was placed under the guardianship of James Brent.[2]

Vincent appears in the 1800 Federal census in Sumter District South Carolina. Vincent's household appears as follows: 1 male age 26 thru 44.[3]

Vincent was a witness to the last will and testament of Jesse Wilder of Sumter District, South Carolina on the 23rd of December 1801. Jesse Wilder's will was recorded in Sumter District, South Carolina on the 20th of December 1802.[4]

Vincent appears in the 1810 Federal census in Sumter District South Carolina. Vincent's household appears as follows: 3 males under age 10; 1 male age 26 thru 44; and 1 female age 16 thru 25.[5]

Vincent appears in the 1820 Federal census in Sumter District South Carolina. Vincent's household appears as follows: 1 male under age 10; 1 male age 10 thru 15; 1 male age 26 thru 44; and 2 females under age 10.[6]

Vincent was a witness to the last will and testament of Alice Terry of Sumter District, South Carolina on the 25th of August 1822. Alice's will was recorded in Sumter District, South Carolina on the 13th of December 1822.[7]

Vincent appears in the 1830 Federal census in Sumter District South Carolina. Vincent's household appears as follows: 1 male age 20 thru 29; 1 male age 30 thru 39; 1 male age 50 thru 59; and 1 female age 15 thru 19.[8]

Vincent appears in the 1840 Federal census in Sumter District South Carolina. Vincent's household appears as follows: 1 male age 60 thru 69; and 1 female age 20 thru 29.[9]

Vincent Wilder died in August/September, 1840, in Sumter District, South Carolina.

Vincent's heirs as listed in his Estate records in Sumter District, South Carolina as follows: "State of South Carolina To John V Wilder & Elizabeth his wife, James R. Wilder & Eliza his wife, Harriet L. Wilder and William S. Wilder- Legal heirs and representatives of Vincent Wilder who died Intestate Greeting - you are hereby required to appear at the Court of Ordinary to be held at Sumter Court house for Sumter district on the twenty third day of February A.D. 1841 to shew cause if any you can why the real estate of Vincent Wilder deceased situated in Clarendon county on Jacks Creek, waters of Santee bounding lands of CW Wells, John Hollady, JM. Felder and WR Gayle and containing two hundred and sixteen and a half acres originally granted to John Gayle should not divided or sold alloting to the said W.S. Wilder his part thereof and the remainder in equal portions to the above named heirs and representatives Witness my hand and seal this twenty second day of December A.D. 1840 W. Lewis O.S.D."[10]
