Biography

Sam was born 17 October 1860, in "Dunkert", Monongalia County, in what became West Virginia. His parents were John A and Phebe M Wiley. NOTE: Dunkert is not listed as a town ; but, Dunkard Creek runs through Monongalia, WV, and Greene, PA.[1][2]

In July 1870, these Wileys are living in Jefferson Township, Scotland County, Missouri: Andrew, 24, farmer, real estate valued at $600, personal estate valued at $400, born in Virginia; M A, 21, female, keeping house, born in Virginia; J H, 3, male, born in Missouri; G W, 2, male, born in Missouri;. The next household is: John, 46, farmer, real estate valued at $4000, personal estate valued at $1700, born in Virginia; P M, 31, female, keeping house, born in Virginia; Dan, 21, farmer, born in Virginia; Henry, 19, born in Virginia; Elizabeth, 16, born in Virginia[3]; R M, 14, female, at school, born in Virginia; Sam, 11, at school, born in Virginia; Unis, 8, female, born in Virginia; Zelda, 5, born in Missouri.[4]


Sam married Ada, between 1 January and 2 June 1880, when they were living in Jefferson, Scotland County, Missouri. He was 19 and a farmer. She was 17. [Note: her parents and siblings are next door.][5]

2 June 1900, this Wiley family was living in Verdi Precinct, Washoe County, Nevada: Samuel M, born Nov 1860, 39, married 20 years, born in West Virginia, parents born in Virginia, carpenter; Ada, April 1863, 37, married 20 years, 6 children, 5 living, born in Illinois, parents born in Missouri and Illinois; Lottie, Aug 1882, 17, born in Missouri; Ethel V, Apr 1887, 13, born in Nevada, at school; Charles L, Sept 1889, 10, born in Nevada, at school; William H, Dec 1891, 8, born in Nevada, at school; Arthur, Feb 1894, 6, born in Nevada.[6]

1920-21, S M Wiley is listed as an apiarist in Verdi, population 500. On page 321, he is one of three in the greater Reno area.[7]

In 1930, he is listed, in Verdi, Washoe, Nevada, with his wife and children.[8]
