Max was born in 1928. He was the son of Kenneth Wilhoit and Mildred Bell. He passed away in 2002.

Obituary

Max Eugene Wilhoit Sr., 74, of Martinsville, died at 11:10 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2002 in the Heartland Manor Nursing Home, Casey, IL.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday Aug. 2, at the Greenwell Funeral Home, Martinsville, IL, with Pastor Randy Murphy, of the Martinsville First Christian Church officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday prior to the service. Private burial in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Paris, IL.

He was born March 21, 1928, in Paris, IL, a son of Kenneth R. and Mildred Bell Wilhoit of Paris.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce B. Wilhoit of St. Petersburg, FL; two sons, Max Eu "Gene" Wilhoit Jr. and wife Jackie and Kenneth Blair Wilhoit, all of Hilton Head, SC; two daughters, Patricia Wilhoit of Louisville, KY, and Linda S. Rouvet of Charleston, SC; one brother, Robert DeWilhoit of Palm Bay, FL; two aunts, Kathryn Bell Patchett and Evelyn Wilhoit, both of Martinsville; eight grandchildren, April Wilhoit, Holly Neal, Misty Wilhoit, Robin Neal, Rand Rouvet, Max Spooner Wilhoit, Austin Wilhoit and Laura Hesketh; four great-grandchildren, Angel, Kaitlynn, Mikayla and Shane.

Mr. Wilhoit graduated with honors at the Citadel Military College in South Carolina in 1957, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a retired NASA Aerospace Engineer and Astrospace Physicist. He was active in the development of the U.S. Space Program. He was active in the development of the U.S. Space Program.

A member of the Martinsville First Christian Church and the AmVetsPost #41, Marshall, IL.
