Biography

Sarah was born most likely about 1790 possibly in the State of Virginia. It is unknown who her parents were. The 1860 U.S. Federal State Census, said that she was born about 1790 and her Birth place was Virginia. There have been many speculations about who her parents may have been but no documental proof.

Sarah is believed to have 1st married William Cannon who she had one son with the by named Andrew Jackson Cannon. Their son Andrew Jackson Cannon, on the 21st of July 1839 married Angeline Tiller, Daughter of Thomas H. Tiller and his 1st. wife Mary "Polly" Blount.

After the death of her 1st husband William Cannon in about 1822, she then 2nd George Washington Vinsant, Sr. toether the had these children: 1. George Washington Vinsant, Jr. II (1824-1910) 2. Henry Ludlow Vinsant, (1826-1870) 3. Lemuel P. Vinsant (1830-1915)

Notes

This is an undocumented burial as no tombstone has been found. There are several field stones that mark the older graves in this cemetery. I feel sure one of them is for Sarah.

She was the 2nd wife of George W. VinSant

I DO NOT agree that Sarah Elizabeth Wilhoit married George W. Vinsant. I believe this is WRONG. I have proof that Sarah Elizabeth Wilhoit married Daniel Richardson, Sr. 1801-1896. Their son John Houston Richardson collected a Civil War Pension File, where he had to bring the family bible which named his mother as Sarah E. Wilhoit and Daniel Richardson. Also in in the 1880 U.S. Federal Census for Campbell County. Pleasant Wilhoit was living with John Houston Richardson their son and Pleasant was named as being a cousin to John Houston Richardson who was head of the home. That would mean that John Houston's mother Sarah Elizabeth Wilhoit was Pleasant's Aunt. According to the 1850 U.S. Federal Census for Campbell County, TN . Pleasant was a child living in the home of Simeon Wilhoit, Jr., which would mean that Simeon Wilhoit, Jr. and Sarah Elizabeth Wilhoit were sibblings and children of Simeon Wilhoit, Sr.

One last thing: John Houstan Richardson's Death Certificate names his parents as being Daniel Richardson and Elizabeth Wilhoit. The 1850 - 1870 Census for Campbell County, TN for Daniel Richardson, Sr. 1801-1896 and his wife named her as Elizabeth - - - -. So, her full name was Sarah Elizabeth Wilhoit, but by choice she went by Elizabeth. My point is Sarah Elizabeth Wilhoit DID NOT marry George W. Vinsant. She married Daniel Richardson, Sr. 1801-1896 who was born in 1801 and died in 1891. NOT the Daniel C. Richardson who was Born 1818 and died 1900. This Daniel C. Richardson, the younger 1818-1900 married the younger sister Mary Wilhoit. Besides an almost 20 year age difference between the two Daniel's another big difference between Daniel Richardson, Sr. 1801-1891 and Daniel C. Richardson, Younger 1818-1900 was that Daniel Richardson, Sr. 1801-1891 could Read and Write, while the younger COULD NOT. So, it is my belief, when Joseph Wilhoit died, Daniel Richardson, Sr. 1801-1891 was his Administrator of the Joseph Wilhoit's Estate. NOT Daniel C. Richardson, the younger 1818-1900. There is often confusion between these two men. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wilhoit-1414

George Washington Vinsant formerly Vanzant

Born 1780 is to old to have married Sarah Wilhoit b 1815, in 1823. She would have been 8 years old at time of marriage.
