Hello C. Wayne Austin,

I am working on my grandfather's line and am stuck. You are the person that I feel has an answer to some of my questions.

I have James D. Jones married to Mary Polly Wilhoite. I see that you have a memorial set up for Mary Polly Wilhoite Jones. Thank you! Do you know where her husband is buried? [No I don't but it is easy to assume beside her] I also see that you refer to James D. Jones as James M. Jones in the biography section of Find-A-Grave for Mary Polly Wilhoite's memorial. I have the North Carolina Marriage Record that shows James D. Jones but I wonder if it could be James M. Jones. I show that James D. Jones and Mary Polly Wilhoite went on to have five boys. They are: James Mat Jones, John Lafayette Jones, William Henry "Bill" Jones, Jacob M. "Jake" Jones and Franklin Pad Jones. James D. or M. Jones would be my 3rd great grandfather making Mary Polly Wilhoite my third great grandmother. Any information that you would or could share would be so appreciated by me. I know that you are busy with family and Church. But if you ever have time, I'd love your thoughts and to know of any research. Thank you for your diligence in family history research!!

Yes I live about 60 miles south of the cemetery where they are buried and have other relatives buried there. There is no headstone for them and I added both Polly & James there based on the plot of land they owned and lived on as being nearby to the Pleasant Gardens Cemetery. They lived along the Big Flat Creek and that road follows the creek west to east & vice versa. That information came from a Bedford Co court case whereby Wiley a son of the older generation of Wilhoites' died in North Carolina. There was a court battle for his assets. This family of Wilhoites were in Bedford County by about 1809. I do not have an answer as to his name being James M versus James D. . either could be correct. Also I wonder why their marriage record is in North Carolina when I only know of her being in Bedford county Tennessee, but it is possible she went to school in North Carolina. I have been to the Pleasant Gardens Cemetery and know there is no tombstone for them, but there are lots of unmarked graves and it is a big cemetery with much open space. I have the ancestry of the Wilhoites in detail if you don't have that. It goes all the way back into Germany. As for the Jones I have not done research there. Can you send me the censuses & married records where you found them? Evidently James died about 1875 and Polly died about 1855 and James remarried to a Prudence (?). Does not look from this that the 2nd marriage produced any children.
