Notes

Note N1956Marriage Notes for SHEILA WILKINS and WILLIAM WEBB:
Sheila and Bert were married at St Alban's church although they would have preferred  St Mary's which was opposite.  St Mary's did not have a licence. The Carpenters and the Kite Powells were not invited to the wedding because of a family rift. There had been a row over the house in Blythe Hill, Catford.  Eric Williams had taken over the business which was on its last legs. (Pa had developed a solvent which removed paint from tins e.g.Golden Syrup and they could then be recycled) Bert said that after Wallie's death he had seen the accounts and that Eric was right that the business had certainly been on its last legs and Eric had managed to build it up again.  However, the girls felt that they had been done out of their inheritance.  The house at Blythe Hill had not much value at the end of the first world war because property prices were so low.
