Held the rank of Captain in militia at beginning of Revolutionary War but did not serve as an active officer during the War. Public service: Surveyor of roads Nov. 1777."[1]

Richard's wife, Rebecca Twitty (c1734 - c1796 Granville Co., NC), was the daughter of John and Mary Twitty.
