Notes for finding sources - Both the Rootsweb source on this profile, and the Geni source on Malda Hall's, show his name as William not John. However he cannot be the William shown as brother here, whose wife is known.

There is a marriage of William Wilkinson and Malda Hall on 20 January 1559 at St Mary in the South Bailey, Durham, which is given for this couple on many Ancestry trees.^[2] However they are also often shown as the parents of Lancelot Wilkinson born about 1530 (as on the Geni tree). They have been conflated with an earlier couple, William Wilkinson and Jane Hall who are the heads of the "Wilkinson of Harperley" pedigree,^[3] so there are now 1534 trees on Ancestry for a "Jane Maida Hall" who has varying elements of both people. Sometimes Jane is shown as the wife of John Wilkinson, but no sources are provided and the 1559 marriage is still often given.

If no source can be found for a John, his forename could be changed to William the husband of Maida Hall married in 1559. There are children of a William Wilkinson born after this marriage in Durham, but not baptised in the same church so would need further research to connect as the name is a common one. William the husband in this marriage is likely to have been born in County Durham.
