Elizabeth was born about 1766 in the Wolf Clan of the Cherokee. She was considered full Cherokee by the tribe because her mother, Mollie, was full Cherokee. At the time, when a European man such as Thomas Jones (abt.1764-abt.1846) married a Cherokee woman, the children belonged to the woman and were considered to be full Indian. She spoke Cherokee and broken English and lived on tribal lands most of her life. [1]
