Biography

Josiah /WILLARD/ was born about 1635, possibly in Concord, Massachusetts.[1] or in Cambridge (if born before the family had removed to Concord in Sep 1635). See Biography of his sister, second paragraph Elizabeth Willard.

He married in Concord 3 Mar 1656/7 Hannah Hosmer.[2]

Resided some years at Hartford. Removed about 1662 to Wethersfield where he kept school for many years.

He died about July 1674 in Wethersfield, CT[3]

Children

  1. Hannah Willard, b. 1674, d. 1749.

Research Notes

Although Anderson suggests that Josiah Willard was born say 1631.[4] This is refuted by the arrival of his father & family in New England first in May 1634, presumably with daughters Mary & Elizabeth. No record of Josiah can be found in England, e.g. Marden. He was likely conceived after May 1634 in New England, thus not born not earlier than Feb 1635, possibly later, and most probably in Concord. DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Josiah by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Josiah:

But Jeremy, where does this correct birth come from?

I will have to check and come back to you - It was on Willard-2720 before the merge.

I have read (sequel Willard memoires page 6) that Simon Willard and family arrived in New England in about May 1634.

Josiah has no baptism in Marden (I have scoured them)

page 9 of https://archive.org/details/willardgenealogy00will/page/9/mode/2up only indicates about 1635 as birth for Josiah

It seems to be clear now that birth on 13 Mar 1635 is correct, thus old references here and on his father's profile to his birth: JW "was born say 1631" should be removed.

Willard-2720 and Willard-283 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate.
