Mary Willcocks was born about 1775.
She married James Rhodes on June 13, 1792, in Nelson County, Kentucky.[1]
According to the published profile of their son, George W. Rhodes, James and Mary and their family moved to Daviess County from Washington County 1n 1932 and settled in Knottsville Precinct, "where they remained until their death."[2] However, the evidence would indicate the move was actually made from Nelson county since that is where James is enumerated in the 1830 census.
Although her exact date of death is not known, by the 1840 census James seems to have disappeared, leaving Mary with a small household. They were both definitely dead by January 10, 1848, when his sons, John A. Rhodes and George W. Rhodes filed bond for the administration of James' and Mary's separate estates. Also signing as sureties were Michael D. Wells and Moses P. Fuque.[3] The filing of the bonds leads one to believe that she died in either late 1847 or very early January, 1848. Both James and Mary apparently died in the Knottsville Precinct, Daviess County, Kentucky[4].
1840 - United States Federal Census - By 1840, James seems to have died. Mary Rhodes is shown in Daviess County, Kentucky. Her household consists of 1 white male, 20-29; one white female, 60-69; 1 female slave under 10; one female slave ages 24-35 and one male slave under 10. Two persons were employed in agriculture.[5]
