James Bowman Williams, "Jim," born June 6, 1885, in Limestone, Washington County, Tennessee, was the youngest of six children, son of Thomas Williams and Margaret (Klepper) Williams and a descendant of the Baumans/Bowmans who emigrated from Switzerland to America, first to Virginia, then to Washington County, Tennessee.
He met and married Rowena Middleton in Limestone, Tennessee October 6, 1905.[1]They had three daughters, Dorothy, Katherine, and Mary Florence, moved to Virginia about 1909,[2]then moved to California in 1921, for Jim's health. They settled in Fresno City in the Central Valley where Rowena's brother had a grocery store and meat market and they raised their family there. About 1935, after their daughters were married, Jim and Rowena moved to Bakersfield where Jim worked for the water company and built houses in his off hours. Finally they moved back to Fresno after he retired.[3]He died April 16,1958,[4]survived by his wife, three daughters, eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
