Biography

Delilah Williams was born in Warren County, North Carolina. She was 15 or 16 years old when her parents died, relatively close together. Her Uncle Pleasant Baskett was appointed her guardian. Their's may have been a strained relationship. The circumstances and her age would be enough to cause strain regardless. In May of 1797 Delilah marries Henderson Frier.[1] They have their first child in September of that same year. So Delilah was five months pregnant at the time of the marriage. Of note, her Uncle Pleasant had signed a marriage bond on her behalf with a Mr. John Parham. The bond is a notice of intent to marry. There is no record this took place. Meanwhile Henderson Frier was named in a bastardy bond a few miles away, and across the county line with another young lady. The two of them sorted out their situation, and wound up together as husband and wife.

The two of them moved to Georgia in 1799, settling in Bulloch County. They were industrious and well matched. They had a large family.

She passed away at the age of fifty-five in Telfair County Georgia.[2]
