Biography

Elizabeth was born around 1800 in Kentucky, [1] the daughter of Eliza Bell (Link) and her first husband, Mr. Williams (given name uncertain).[2]

On 16 January 1814 she was married to David Hudson in Pulaski County, Kentucky.[3] They spent the early years of their marriage there, [4] but were in Madison County, Illinois in time for the 1820 census. [5]

In Illinois, the Hudsons farmed and reared a family of at least nine children. Elizabeth was also – like her mother Eliza – a midwife. [6]

She was enumerated with her family in 1850,[1] but was apparently deceased by 8 July 1854, when her son Spencer Hudson was appointed administrator of his father’s estate. There is no mention of a widow; and among the items paid for by the estate were two coffins and two tombstones, which sounds as if husband and wife may have died around the same time. The location of their graves is unknown. [7]
