Biography

U.S. Southern Colonies Project logo
Edward Williams was a Carolina colonist.

Based upon a land grant record and scant data from his will, it appears that Edward was a planter who likely received some of his land from passenger headrights:

Will Abstract for Edward Williams

Will of Edward Williams, Pasquotank County. Oct Court, 1739.

Two versions of abstracts might represent the same person, but it is hard to tell; noting, however, that the latter may be court settlement of probate, not just the will:

  1. Sons: LEMAND, JOSIAH, LODWICK and JOSEPH [lands and Negroes (sic)]. Daughter: SARAH. Wife and Ezecutriz: Elizabeth. Witnesses: DANIEL SAWYER, B. MORGAN. Clerk of the Court: JAMES CRAVEN.[2]
  2. Edward Williams of Pasquotank. Oct Court 1739; son Leonard, daughter Barbara Lurry and her husband Evan Lurry, son Josiah, brother William Williams, son Joseph, daughter Sarah Parseley, daughter Mary Morgan, daughter Jemima Williams, wife Elizabeth, son Luodovick (sic) Williams, son Josiah Williams.[3]

Reconcilement between the two abstract versions:

  • Lemand might be Leonard
  • Josiah appears in both abstracts
  • Lodwick is a highly probable match of Luodovick
  • Joseph appears in both abstracts
  • Daughter Sarah is a highly probable match of daughter Sara Parseley
  • Wife Elizabeth appears in both abstracts
  • Appearing only in the second abstract:
    • Barbara Lurry and husband Evan
    • Brother William Williams
    • Daughter Mary Morgan
    • Daughter Jemima Williams

Research Notes

  • A previously attached son, William Williams, had an unrealistic birth date, as his mother was reported out of range: mother's birth date (Sawyer-1692 born 1650) should not be more than 67 years before the birth date of one of her children (Williams-22688 born 1739).

Williams-81791 and Williams-22682 appear to represent the same person because: Clearly the same person. I inadvertently entered mine in.
