According to Ida Kellam in Brooks and Kindred Families, John married Jane Williams, daughter of Roger Williams who was born in Wales.[2] However according to Doug McBroom, publishing in Richmond County Georgia Archives section of USGenWeb, this is the only reference to Jane Williams, and some of Kellam's information is "inaccurate."[1] Kellem does not reveal her source for the name of John's wife, and McBroom cautions that there may be confusion between this and another John May who lived in Orange County, North Carolina at the same time.[1] Note: This is the John May of Orange County which became Pitt County, NC.
Jane was born in 1710.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jane by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jane:
Per the comment below, I have detached Jane from Roger Williams of Rhode Island as her parent. She belongs to the Virginia Williamses, not the Rhode Island ones.
The descent of early Virginia Williamses from Roger Williams, founder of Providence, RI, is a myth that repeatedly turns up across the 'net. There were at least two, and likely four (or more) Roger Williamses in Virginia in the mid-1600s; these are the only Rogers known who generated Williams lines in that colony. None of them have any known connection to Roger of RI.
Please detach Jane from Roger Williams as father; the claim that she was a daughter of this namesake grandson of the Providence founder simply has no foundation. The two children of this third-generation Roger and his wife, Elizabeth (Walling) Williams -- who were never anywhere near Virginia -- are well-known and documented: they had two, both of whom were daughters: Elizabeth and Rebecca. I.", Vol. 1, pages 135 (right column, bottom) through 139; https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89062448378&view=1up&seq=142 ; also see "Ancestry of Thirty-Three Rhode Islanders Born in the 18th Century", chart on p. 109; https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015028775222&view=1up&seq=119&size=150 .)
