Biography

Joel Yost Williams was born May 27, 1848 and is the son of Warrington Williams and Dorcus Yost. Joel grew up in Richland, Ohio along with seventeen siblings; Flavious Josephus Williams, Tobias Williams, Friend Williams, Martha Anne Williams, Minerva K Williams, Nancy E Williams, Lavina J Williams, Lucinda Williams, Margaret Jane Williams, eight of which were half siblings; Fielding Asbury Williams, Friendly Warrington Williams, Silas Benton Williams, Daniel Liberty Williams, Mary L Williams, James E Williams, Sarah Elizabeth Williams and Margaret Malica Williams.[1] Joel moved in with his Yost grandparents when he was twelve as it shows on the 1860 census.[2]

Joel is on the California voter registration records in 1892[3] and 1896.[4][5] In 1900 Joel shows up on two census records. June 15, 1900 he visited his sibling Minerva Lebeyher in West Virginia.[6] On June 19, 1900 he is shown at his sister Nancy Vermillion's home in Ohio.[7]

Joel married Martha Ellen Gooch Lazear September 23, 1903[8] and they made their home along with her two children, Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Lazear and Sallie H Lazear in Wells, Ohio[9][10] until her death May 6, 1923.[11] Joel lived in Brilliant, Ohio with his stepchildren and brother in law until at least 1940.[12][13] Joel died July 20, 1940.[14]
