The death of Miss Edith Mary Williams aged 80, third daughter of the late Bishop Leonard Williams and sister of the late Bishop Herbert W. Willliams, took place this morning at the former home of her grandfather, the first Bishop of Waiapu, "Hukarere." Miss Williams was born in 1859 at the Wairenga-ahika mission station, Poverty Bay, and as a child of six years of age was brought to Napier in the Government steamer St. Kilda when the Williams family had to leave hurriedly owing to the Hau Hau outbreak. Miss Williams took a great interest in all diocesan work and was the first president of the Girls' Friendly Society. Although she was a member of a family of 10, she is survived only by an elder brother and sister, Mr. F. W. Williams of Napier and Mrs. Charles Gray, of Gisborne.
