William was a Baptist Minister. He was born 25 Sep 1800 in Tennessee and died 6 Dec 1873.[1] His wife was Elizabeth Lay as told by Lay family lore. Judging from the census of 1830 he and Elizabeth married in the early 1820's, surely in Claiborne County, Tennessee, where they are found in the census. In 1850 the county name changed to Union County.
