Biography

Margaret Williams was born about 1774, the second of ten children and the first daughter born to Richard Williams and his wife Margaret Harris. [1]

According to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Genealogies, Richard was born in North Wales and came to America alone at the age of 13. He was apprenticed to Samuel Harris of Boston to learn the cooper's trade. About 1770, Richard married Samuel's daughter Margaret Harris, and a few years later, they came to Nova Scotia and settled at Chegoggin, Yarmouth County. [2]

According to Elias Trask, His Children, and Their Succeeding Race, Margaret Williams married Elias Trask in October 1794, and their marriage banns were recorded in the Second Book, Township of Yarmouth. [3] Elias was the son of Thomas Trask and Hannah Waterman, who had come to Yarmouth from Plymouth, Massachusetts in about 1773. [4][5]

Margaret and Elias had six children:

  1. Richard (1795 - 1870) m. Rachel Harris

  3. Hannah (1800 - 1884) m. Pearl Durkee

  5. Elias Mason (1804 - 1881) m. 1 Mehitable Mary Harris, 2 Mary Ellis/Albrecht*
  6. Mary (1806 - 1890) m. Aaron Sollows
