Biography

We didn't have many Williams Heroes in World War II and its a shame we seem to forget the few relatives we had that were involved in that War of Wars. I know there's many more but for some reason they seem to slide into that world we call obscurity. I want to introduce you to one of the Williams Heroes Mr Ralph Otto Williams, He lived to the ripe old age of 93, Ralph as we're all destined to do died Friday, Feb. 17, 2017. Ralph was born Nov. 24, 1923, and reared on the family's tobacco plantation in Britton's Neck, SC, USA. His Williams ancestors were among the original settlers in coastal South Carolina where they received a land grant from the King in England. He was the last survivor of twelve children. Ralph was never absent a day during his years of public school. He earned his B.S. degree in Animal Science from Clemson University and Master's degree from the University of Georgia. He was employed as a faculty member by both Universities. Later he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. After retiring he became a licensed Private Investigator. Ralph was a World War II veteran and served in the US Army Air Corp. In 1944 he flew combat missions with the 8th Air Force in Europe as a tail-gunner on a B-24. On his last mission their plane was shot down and he became a POW for the last year of the war. Ralph was preceded in death by his love Martha Chapman Williams, wife of 58 years. Ralph is survived by his two daughters, Susan Williams Day and husband, Barry of Montgomery and Glenda Williams Conner "Winky", of North Richland Hills; granddaughters, Rebecca Pubentz and husband, Michael of Kingwood, Christina Dressell and husband, Robert of Tyler and Lisa Miller and husband, Clint of Richardson; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Charlotte Pubentz, Abigail and William Dressell, Jack, Kyle and Ben Miller. The family would like to thank the James L. West facility for their kindness and care of their HERO Mr Ralph Otto.Williams.
