James Williams was born on 21 August 1839 in Canon Pyon, Herefordshire, England. [1][2][3] He emigrated to the United States in 1878 with his wife and three oldest children aboard the "Denmark" (the other children were born in Pennsylvania). [4] They settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania [3] where he worked as a shoemaker. [1] After his retirement, he lived with his daughter, Elizabeth Armstrong, in Indiana.

Death
James died 23 February 1929 in Bethlehem, Northampton County, Pennsylvania while visiting his daughter Annie Margaret Siegfried. [1] He was buried in Indiana. [1]
