Biography

Edgar Charles Williams, my grandfather, was born in March 1892, he was the 2nd Son of Alfred Williams and Frances Agnes Cannock. [1]

In the 1901 census Edgar is 9 years old and living with his parents Alfred and Frances at 63, Woodland Road, Newport, Mon, along with his step brothers and sisters. These are Edgar's siblings from Alfred's first marriage to Susannah Anne Cannock which are:

  1. Florence Elizabeth Garland. (Married to Alan Garland)
  2. William Allen Williams,
  3. Lilian Emily Williams.
  4. Herbert Williams.
  5. Dorothy Emily Garland.

Frances and Susannah were sisters, and Susannah passed away in 1889 at the age of 43.

Alfred remarried in the same year to Frances Agnes Cannock, Susannah,s sister. Edgar is the 2nd Son of this relationship. The following are Edgar's siblings from this relationship:

  1. Arthur Cannock Williams.
  2. Frances Agnes Williams.
  3. Percival Clement Williams.
  4. Minnie Evelyn Williams. [2]

In the 1911 census, Edgar is 19 and living at 11, Shop Row in Tredegar with Thomas & Annie Owen and their family. Thomas is the elder brother of Martha who is married to Frederick Davis. [3]

In 1917 Edgar Williams would marry Elizabeth Davis, the daughter of Frederick and Martha in Tredegar. [4]

Edgar and Elizabeth had two children:

  1. Marie Williams
  2. Joyce Williams

Edgar passed away on the 24 March 1951, I was just four at the time so I only have a vague recollection of him. [5]

May was the only one of my grandparents that I knew, she passed away in October 1962 when I was 16, so I remember her very well.

Williams, Edgar Charles of 28 Redbrook Road, Newport Monmouthshire died 24 March 1951 at The Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport. Probate 8 August 1951 to Marie Williams and Sam Wayland Brown, [6]
